Rapp Leads Argos To Victory To Advance To GSC Championship Game

OXFORD, Ala. — Braden Rapp threw a complete game for West Florida as they took down Lee in a 12-1 run-rule victory on Monday to advance to the Gulf South Conference championship game tomorrow.

Zack Stokes led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and later scored on William Lybrook's RBI single, giving West Florida an early 1-0 advantage. In the third inning, Greg Pettay doubled and was brought home by Alex Urias's RBI single.

UWF capitalized on Lee's error in the fourth inning, scoring four runs. Trent Kelly doubled to drive in two runs, and Tyler Brobst's RBI single followed by Urias's RBI single increased the lead to 6-0. The fifth inning saw significant scoring for the Argos as Stokes homered, followed by a series of hits, including a two-RBI triple by Brobst, to push the score to 11-0.

In the sixth inning, Stokes singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch, expanding the lead to 12-0. Lee managed to score in the seventh inning with a home run, but it was insufficient to close the gap.

Braden Rapp delivered a standout performance, pitching a complete game in West Florida's contest against Lee. Rapp allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out seven batters across 7 innings. His control was evident with only two walks issued over 85 pitches, 55 of which were strikes. This outing secured his seventh win of the season.

The Argos will move on to the championship game tomorrow, May 5, at 1 p.m. and will face No. 5 Delta State.
