Former UWF standout pitcher Kevin Johnson was named a full time assistant coach/pitching coordinator by UWF baseball coach

Since joining the Argos coaching staff in 2022, Kevin Johnson has played an essential role in helping lead the UWF pitchign staff.
The Pensacola native prepped at West Florida Tech where he established school-records with 182 innings pitched, 23 wins, 28 games started, nine shutouts, 15 strikeouts in one game and a career 0.77 earned run average. He has since been inducted into the Hall of Fame. He then went on to be a 2-time all-conference pitcher at Alabama Southern Community College.
Johnson starred for the Argonauts from 2009-10, compiling a 13-6 record with six complete games and three shutouts. He was an ABCA, NWBCA and D2CCA All-Region selection in 2010 and earned his second All-Gulf South Conference honor that same year. He was later named to the GSC All-Decade Team for the 2010s.
After college he had a brief showing with the Pensacola Pelicans and then was drafted in the 2010 Major League First Year Player Draft to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 20th Round. He played in their system for six seasons at every level.
In 2012 he pitched in the Freeway Series at Dodger Stadium and set the single-season save record in the Texas League while playing for the Arkansas Travelers. A year later he was selected to play in the Texas League All-Star Game. He concluded his time as an athlete with the Normal Cornbelters in the Frontier League.
Before joining the UWF staff, Johnson was the Assistant Head Coach at Coastal Alabama CC North.
During his time with the Argos, Johnson has coached three GSC Conference Championship teams and two South Regional Championship-winning teams. He has been named as a part of the #1 Pitching Staff in the GSC for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 seasons.
Johnson has been married to Courtney Johnson since 2010. They have two children, Addelyn and Koby, and currently reside in the Florida Panhandle where he has been training players since 2015.
