Chris Amos

Dr. Christopher Amos came to UWF in June of 2012 as an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership. He was asked to join the football coaching staff in September of 2014. He will be the first running backs coach for UWF football. Prior to joining the coaching staff Dr. Amos was highly involved with mentoring NCAA Student Athletes here at UWF.

Dr. Amos’ coaching career began as a high school coach at Gaither High School in Tampa, Florida where he coached linebackers and Defensive Coordinator. After graduating from the University of Alabama with a bachelors degree in special education, Dr. Amos coached at South Broward High School in Hollywood, Florida. While at South Broward he coached Quarterbacks on varsity and was the head JV coach. He then moved to Sheridan Hills Christian School, in Hollywood, Florida, where he built the first team in school history. Dr. Amos then moved to Chicago for his wife’s medical internship, and he coached Quarterbacks and was head JV coach at Nicholas Senn High School. He then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada for his wife’s medical residency, where he was hired to be the first Athletic director in school history at Legacy High School. While at Legacy he was also the Quarterbacks Coach. Once he earned his M.Ed in Educational Leadership from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Dr. Amos moved into school administration but still worked with the Quarterbacks at Legacy and then at Arbor View High School. A few years later, Dr. Amos and his wife moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, where he was hired as a teacher and coach at Pass Christian High School. While in Mississippi he earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi and was hired to be the principal at Westminster Academy in Gulfport, Mississippi. As the principal he also coached at Westminster Academy and in local youth leagues. In June of 2012, Dr. Amos was hired to be faculty at the University of West Florida in the Educational Leadership program and then asked to be a part of the first coaching staff in school history.

Dr. Amos has been married, to his wife Heather, since 2003 and they have a daughter, Hadley, who was born in 2010 and a son, Christopher Jr. who was born in 2012. His recruiting area includes: Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and S.W. Florida.
