SAITAMA, Japan – Former West Florida men’s basketball player and Tate High School graduate Reggie Warren is making a name for himself in Japan, starring for the Saitama Broncos of the Basketball Japan League (BJ-League).  Warren was named the BJ-League Player of the Week on Wednesday after putting up 42 points and 32 points in back-to-back games against the Tokyo Apache.

Warren is in his third year playing in the BJ-League, joining the Broncos this year after two seasons with the Takamatsu Five Arrows.  The power forward is fifth in the league in scoring with 21.6 points per game and sixth in rebounds with 12.5 per game.  The 12-team league was established in March of 2005, and Saitama competes in the Eastern Conference.

The Broncos are led by Head Coach David Benoit, former NBA player for the Utah Jazz, New Jersey Nets, and Orlando Magic.  The team that the Broncos faced this week, the Tokyo Apache, is led by Head Coach Joe Bryant, father of Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant.

Since playing at UWF, Warren has seen time in leagues in Canada, Turkey, Israel, and Venezuela, as well as the American Basketball Association.  He has also competed in a basketball tour of China.  Warren played for the Argonauts in 2002-03, earning the first All-America selection in UWF history with 18.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
