VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of West Florida volleyball team fell to Gulf South Conference opponent Valdosta State 1-3 (25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 27-25) on the road Tuesday night. West Florida (17-6, 10-3 GSC) fought back early to take the opening set but would go on to lose its' third conference match of the season for the first time since 2006.

UWF freshman
Katy Kuhlmeier (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln HS) led the Argonauts offensively on the night with career-highs in kills (12) and attacking percentage (.500).
Freshman
Monique StCyr (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown HS) tallied a team-high 36 assists while sophomore
Tori Martella (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence HS) tied an individual season-high 19 digs.
West Florida trailed 15-19 early in the first set before the Argonauts used a 6-2 run to tie the match at 21 points. UWF would go on to win the first set 25-23 behind a 10-3 run.
The Argonauts would go on to drop the second set 20-25 before dropping the third set by the same score.
West Florida posted its best team attacking percentage in the fourth set (.289) and tallied 20 kills but Valdosta State would go on to win the fourth set 25-27. UWF led VSU 23-21 late in the fourth set but the Blazers responded with 3-1 run to tie the set at 24 before Valdosta clinched the match on a 4-1 run.
West Florida will continue Gulf South Conference play on the road this weekend as the Argonauts will play Christian Brothers on Friday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. before facing Union (Tenn.) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
