CLEVELAND, Miss. – The West Florida women's soccer team took a season-high 32 shots in a 2-0 Gulf South Conference victory on the road at Delta State Friday afternoon.
The Argonauts (8-5, 6-3) placed 13 shots on goal and limited the Lady Statesmen (2-11-1, 0-9) to five shots in the game.
"I'm always pleased to get conference win on the road," UWF coach
Joe Bartlinski said. "Delta State did a great job today, but I was happy that we finally broke them down on a couple of set pieces to get the victory."
UWF's first goal came off a
Kelly Andres (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny HS) free kick that was headed in by
April Syme (Mississauga, Ontario/Tyler JC) in the 30th minute. It was Syme's team-leading seventh goal of the season and Andres' third assist of the year.
Shanice Monteith (George Town, Cayman Islands/University College) extended UWF's lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute on a free kick to score her first goal of the year.
