PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida women's basketball team lost its first game of the season in the championship game of the Comfort Inn-vitational Thanksgiving Tournament 64-58 to No. 20 Central Missouri Saturday night at the UWF Field House.
The Argonauts (3-1) concluded non-conference play and will play Gulf South Conference opponents during the rest of the regular season.
"Central Missouri is a phenomenal team with great players," UWF coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "Playing against them made us a better team. They challenged us in many different ways, but I'm proud of our team for accepting that challenge and staying in the game."
There were eight lead changes in the first half, and UWF eventually trailed 32-29 at the break. But CMU began the second half with a 7-0 run, and UWF never regained the lead.
Jasmine Wigfall (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek HS) led UWF with 14 points, and
Katie Bobos (Lowell, Ind./Lowell HS) just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
"We had moments of brilliance that showed promise for our young team," Yelton said. "I'm very proud of the team's effort tonight."
UWF will open conference play with a road trip to Alabama Huntsville and North Alabama Dec. 4 and 6.
