PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida volleyball team swept Gulf South Conference opponent Mississippi College 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-13) in the final home match of the season on Saturday night. West Florida (24-6, 17-3 GSC) finishes the regular season ranked second in the conference and will enter next weekend's GSC Volleyball Tournament as the No. 2 seed.
"Our thought process going into this match was to continue to get better," head coach
Melissa Wolter said. "Mississippi College has gotten a lot better since the last time we played them and we knew that we were going to have pay attention to some different players that they had (recently) put in their lineup. I just thought our players did a nice job of not having very many lapses in executing the game plan and staying disciplined with how we handled the ball."
UWF was led on the night by senior
Sarah Scott (Plainfield, Ill./Texas-San Antonio). Scott tallied 15 kills at an impressive .481 clip. Scott also tallied four blocks in the win and moved into third place in career blocks at West Florida.
"It was definitely a weird feeling tonight knowing that it was the last time I was going to play in this gym," Scott said. "It feels great to know that I am in the records for blocks at West Florida but I couldn't have done it without my teammates and pin players."
West Florida posted a season-best .406 team attacking percentage in the win while holding the MC offense to a .076 team clip.
UWF freshman
Katy Kuhlmeier (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln HS) tallied 14 kills on 30 swings at a .400 clip and led the Argonauts with 11 digs on Saturday night. Senior
KC Dobbins (Winston-Salem, N.C./Arkansas) tallied a team-high 26 assists.
West Florida will next compete in the Gulf South Conference Tournament hosted by Shorter on Nov. 15-16 in Rome, Ga. as the No. 2-seed. This will be the first time in six years that UWF has not played host to the GSC Volleyball Tournament.
