UWF comes back to defeat DSU 73-69 in overtime

Bobos records her second consecutive double-double

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The West Florida women's basketball team rallied in the second half to force overtime before defeating Delta State 73-69 in a rematch of the 2013-14 Gulf South Conference finals on the road in Cleveland, Miss. Saturday.

The Argos overcame a 12-point deficit in the second half, including an 11-point deficit with 2:33 remaining, to force overtime when Brianna Williams (Minneapolis, Minn./North Dakota) made a game-tying layup with 0.8 seconds remaining in regulation.

"We had our ups and down," said UWF coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton. "We had moments where we looked like the Bad News Bears and moments when we looked brilliant. We finally got focused and determined, and we executed our offense properly. We started attacking the basket and making big plays.

"This is a huge win before the break. Last year we went into Christmas break with two losses. It's hard to win on the road in this conference, especially at Delta State."

Jasmine Wigfall (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek HS) scored 18 points including four in overtime, Katie Bobos (Lowell, Ind./Lowell HS) recorded her second straight double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Toni Brewer (Huntsville, Ala./Sparkman HS) led UWF with 19 points.

"I'm impressed with Katie Bobos's effort, another double-double on the boards for the second game in the row," Yelton said. "Brewer as well, being able to put up 19 points. Wigfall shined late despite early foul trouble. I really feel like we had a great collective effort, including players coming off the bench."

UWF will host Union (Tenn.) Jan. 3 and Christian Brothers Jan. 5 at the UWF Field House.
