PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida women's basketball team downed Union (Tenn.) 78-61 to take sole possession of first place in the Gulf South Conference standings Saturday afternoon at the UWF Field House.
UWF (9-2, 6-1) and UU (9-2, 5-2) entered the game tied for first in the GSC standings. UWF led almost the entire game, leading for the final 38 minutes.
Jasmine Wigfall (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek HS) led the Argo scoring effort with 20 points.

Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "I'm very pleased for the team to come together after Christmas break and do a great job."
UWF, the conference's top team in field-goal percentage defense and the No. 22 team in the nation in that category, held Union, the conference's top shooting team and No. 24 team in the nation, to a 30.0 shooting percentage. The Bulldogs entered the game shooting 45.8 percent from the field.
"Coming into this game, we talked about how they were the No. 1 offense and we were the No. 1 defense," Yelton said. "We talked about who was going to prevail. Our players did an awesome job of sticking to the game plan. We're pleased about how our team has taken great pride in their defense."
Katie Bobos (Lowell, Ind./Lowell HS) recorded 13 rebounds and nine points,
Brianna Williams (Minneapolis, Minn./North Dakota) scored nine points with nine rebounds, three steals and three assists and
Kelly Preston (Waunakee, Wisc./Denver) scored 13 points with nine rebounds.
UWF will host Christian Brothers Monday Jan. 5 at 5 p.m.
