LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Florida women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four with a 71-64 win on the road at West Alabama Saturday afternoon. The Argonauts (11-2, 8-1) maintained their spot atop the Gulf South Conference standings with the win over the Tigers (6-7, 3-6).
The Argonauts shot a season-high 51.9 percent from the field and 42.9 (3-of-7) percent from behind the arc. UWA began the game with a 6-0 lead but UWF came back to lead the final 34 minutes of the game.
"I'm very pleased that we were able to start this two game road swing with a win," UWF coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "
Toni Brewer performed big for us in points and rebounds. We also had a balanced scoring effort on offense.
"It was nice to see our team finish big plays down the stretch on both ends of the floor, but we'll need to improve our free throw shooting to have continued success on the road."
Brewer (Huntsville, Ala./Sparkman HS) led UWF with 21 points and eight rebounds.
Brianna Williams (Minneapolis, Minn.) turned in an all-around impressive performance with 10 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Katie Bobos (Lowell, Ind./Lowell HS) recorded 14 points with four rebounds.
UWF will travel to West Georgia Jan. 12 to play the Wolves at 5:30 p.m. ET.
