CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Argonaut women's basketball team's four-game winning streak came to an end after a 63-60 loss at West Georgia in a Gulf South Conference contest Monday night.
West Florida (11-3, 8-2) shot almost eight percent better from the field and outrebounded the Wolves (9-6, 4-5) 46-36, but the Argos turned the ball over 18 times compared to UWG's 10.
"Poor free throw shooting caught up with us tonight," UWF coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said of the Argos' 46.7 free throw percentage. "It was an ultra-physical game. I'm proud of how our team responded after coming out down at the half.
"As a coach, I take responsibility for the loss. I over-coached them and prepared them differently coming into the game."
Toni Brewer (Huntsville, Ala./Sparkman HS) and
Kelly Preston (Waunakee, Wisc./Denver) each recorded double-doubles. Brewer scored 11 with 10 rebounds, and Preston scored 14 with 10 rebounds.
Brianna Williams (Minneapolis, Minn./North Dakota) helped the Argo scoring effort with 14 points.
UWF will host Valdosta State Saturday Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
