PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida women's basketball team came back to defeat North Alabama 71-62 Thursday night at the UWF Field House. The Argonauts have not lost to a Gulf South Conference opponent at home in six games this season.
UWF (13-3, 10-2 GSC) trailed 30-26 at halftime, and UNA (9-7, 6-6) started the half on a 9-0 run to lead 39-26 with 17:26 remaining. But UWF responded with an 11-0 run and eventually tied the game 45-45 with 10 minutes remaining. There were four ties and four lead changes the rest of the way, but UWF finished the final 4:25 on an 11-2 run to win it.
"I have to give UNA credit," UWF coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "They came out very physical, very aggressive and shooting the ball very well in the first half.
"In the second half, we came out ready to play a physical game. We rotated different lineups. We pressed a little more than we usually do. We were able to make our free throws and win it down the stretch."
Toni Brewer (Huntsville, Ala./Sparkman HS) recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Katie Bobos (Lowell, Ind./Lowell HS) scored 17 points with eight rebounds, and
Jasmine Wigfall (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek HS) recorded the first double-double of her career with 13 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
UWF will host Alabama Huntsville Saturday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
