BOX SCORE

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team improved its record to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the Gulf South Conference with a win over North Alabama on Sunday afternoon. West Florida outshot UNA 32-12 in the victory, with 12 of those shots going on target.

North Alabama got out to a quick lead, as national leading goal-scorer Chloe Richards approached the 18-yard box and netted a low shot in the 3rd minute. UWF controlled the ball for much of the first half, totaling 14 shots and putting seven of those shots on goal, while UNA got off just eight total shots in the first 45 minutes.

Amber Pennybaker (Indianapolis, Ind./Tampa) gave UWF a tie in the 37th minute, as a missed clearance from a corner kick found her feet and she used her heel to knock it past the UNA keeper. Richards struck again in the 40th minute with a well-placed, long-distance shot that just got over the hands of Ana Chumik (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags HS) to give North Alabama a 2-1 lead into the half.

UWF made a switch to put Emily Grammer (Panama City, Fla./Mosley HS) in goal after the half, and Grammer responded by recording three saves. West Florida held control of the ball for nearly the entire second half, and the Argos evened the score in the 67th minute on a Svenja Burkhardt (Bad Salzuflen, Germany/Gymnasium Heepen) penalty kick, giving Burkhardt her first goal of the season.

Pennybaker struck again with a goal in the 82nd minute, her sixth of the season, as she recovered her own rebounded shot and put a shot in the lower left corner to get by UNA keeper Shelby Thornton for a 3-2 UWF lead. Pennybaker and Kaley Ward (Saint Cloud, Fla./Tampa) led the Argos with three shots on goal each on the afternoon.

UWF's 32 shots were the team's most since putting up 32 shots last year against Delta State.

UWF will visit Alabama Huntsville and West Alabama for GSC matches next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
