October 16, 2015 BOX SCORE HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team defeated the University of Alabama Huntsville on Friday night, shutting out the Chargers by a score of 3-0. UWF improves to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the Gulf South Conference, with Alabama Huntsville dropping to 5-7-2 on the year with a 2-6-1 conference mark.
Senior
Amber Pennybaker (Indianapolis, Ind./Tampa) got the Argonauts started, netting a goal in the 10th minute for her seventh goal of the season. The 1-0 West Florida advantage would hold for the remainder of the first half.
Sophomore
Daryl Bell (Sarasota, Fla./Southeast HS) proved to be too much for the Chargers defense, netting two goals in six minutes during the second half. The goals for Bell were her sixth and seventh of the season.
Junior
Kaley Ward (Saint Cloud, Fla./Tampa) capped off UWF's scoring efforts, tallying the fourth and final UWF goal in the 65th minute, coming from a feed from Pennybaker. The second half scoring outburst for West Florida created three goals that came within a 9:19 span.
With goals from Pennybaker, Bell and Ward, UWF women's soccer stands as the only team in the GSC with three players that have tallied at least seven goals on the season.
West Florida outshot Alabama Huntsville by a dominant margin of 23-4. UWF also held advantages in shots on goal,12-1, and corners, 11-2. Junior keeper
Emily Grammer (Panama City, Fla./Mosley HS) picked up her second win and shutout of the season. The UWF back line was able to keep the Chargers attack modest, as Grammer saved the only shot on goal UAH recorded.
With the win, the Argonauts tie its longest winning streak of the season at three games. Heading forward, West Florida looks at a Sunday afternoon tilt against the University of West Alabama that is slated for a 12:30 p.m. start.
