PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team is set to face Alabama Huntsville and Gulf South Conference leader No. 23 West Alabama this weekend. The match against UAH will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, and Sunday's match against UWA will start at 12:30 p.m.

Recapping Last Weekend
UWF defeated North Alabama on October 11, scoring three goals against one of the best defenses in the Gulf South Conference and allowing just two goals to a top offense in all of Division II.

Amber Pennybaker led the charge with two goals, scoring one off a missed clearance following a corner kick and netting the game-winner in the 81st minute. UWF outshot UNA 32-12 in the victory, and goalkeeper Emily Grammer held the Lions scoreless after entering the game in the second half.

Regional Rankings
Following the win against North Alabama, UWF moved up one spot to ninth in the NSCAA South Region rankings, while UNA dropped from fifth to sixth. West Alabama leads GSC teams in the rankings, sitting behind Sunshine State Conference foes Barry and Rollins. Lee and Tampa are fourth and fifth in the rankings, while UNA, Florida Tech and Christian Brothers are sixth, seventh and eighth. The Argos are 3-2 this year against teams ahead of them in the regional rankings.

The top six teams in the South Region rankings advance to the NCAA Tournament, with the top two teams receiving a first-round bye. Conference tournament winners from the GSC and the SSC get automatic bids and the remaining four spots are at-large bids based on the rankings.

Scouting UAH and UWA
Alabama Huntsville ranks second in the GSC with 29 goals scored on the year, aided by a 14-1 victory over USCAA-affiliated Oakwood in mid-September. In conference play, the Chargers hold a 2-5-1 record and have been outscored 21-7.

Despite what a sub-par record might suggest, UAH will bring several talented players to Friday's match, including Sydnie Fiocca, a three-time All-GSC performer and the 2012 conference freshman of the year. Joining Fiocca are Sydney Pfankuch and Alexcia Alexander, last year's GSC Freshman of the Year. Pfankuch and Alexander are second and fifth, respectively, in the conference in points this year.

West Alabama will showcase an offense that has averaged 2.5 goals per game, good for second in the GSC and a top-30 mark in D2. The Tigers' 1.3-goal average margin of victory ranks third in the conference, behind UWF and North Alabama, and the team's 1.18 goals against average ranks fifth in the GSC.

The Tigers are led offensively by Kirsten Reilly and Katy Morris, both of whom rank in the top 10 in the GSC in goals, assists and points.  Issy Foster stands in goal for UWA, allowing 1.1 goals per game. Reilly and Foster were both preseason All-GSC selections.

UWF is 21-0 all-time against Alabama Huntsville and 5-1 against West Alabama.
