Argos improve to 12-4 on the season, 8-3 in GSC

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team defeated Valdosta State 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon. UWF improves to 12-4 on the season with an 8-3 record in the Gulf South Conference.
 
West Florida and VSU finished the first half in a scoreless tie, and UWF held an advantage in shots and shots on goal. The Argos took eight total shots to Valdosta's four and put four of those shots on target. Daryl Bell (Sarasota, Fla./Southeast HS) recorded three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes for West Florida, while Emily Vogler (Lynn Haven, Fla./Mosley HS) added one of her own.
 
Bell picked up her 11th goal of the season in the 55th minute after the VSU keeper saved an Amber Pennybaker (Indianapolis, Ind./Tampa) shot inside the six-yard box. Kaley Ward (Saint Cloud, Fla./Tampa) added an insurance goal to seal the UWF win in the 80th minute, and it was her ninth of the year. Bell headed her second goal of the game and her 12th of the year to give UWF a 3-0 lead in the 90th minute.
 
Earlier in the day, UWF jumped to fourth in the latest South Region rankings. The third and fourth seeds for each region in the NCAA Tournament will host a first-round game against the fifth- and sixth-seeded teams, respectively.
 
UWF will host West Georgia for Senior Day and the Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Saturday, October 31. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
