October 31, 2015 BOX SCORE PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team defeated West Georgia 3-0 in the team's regular-season finale. With the win, UWF improved to 13-4 overall with a 9-3 record in the Gulf South Conference.
West Florida finished the regular season with seven wins in its last eight games, outscoring opponents 22-3 along the way.
Daryl Bell (Sarasota, Fla./Southeast HS), who scored twice in the win, scored nine total goals in the team's last six contests.
The Argos took a lead in the 10th minute with
Amber Pennybaker's (Indianapolis, Ind./Tampa) eighth goal of the season. Pennybaker received a thru ball from
Kaley Ward (Saint Cloud, Fla./Tampa) and knocked the ball past the UWG keeper, who came out aggressively. The assist was Ward's fifth of the year.
Pennybaker added another point just seven minutes later by assisting Bell on her first goal of the day and her 13th of the year. The same twosome struck again in the 69th minute, as Bell found the right post and saw the ball deflect into the net.
UWF held West Georgia to just two shots in the first 45 minutes and outshot UWG 21-8 during the match.
Ana Chumik (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags HS) recorded one save in 77 minutes in goal, improving her season record to 6-2.
West Florida's next game will come in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. Information about the game's time and location will be decided following conference action on Sunday afternoon. West Florida can finish no worse than fourth in the regular-season conference standings, meaning the Argos will either host a first-round game on Tuesday or receive a bye.
