October 30, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of West Florida men's soccer team defeated the Spring Hill College Badgers on Friday afternoon by a score of 2-1. With the win, West Florida clinches its 10th consecutive Gulf South Conference tournament appearance, matching the second longest streak in the conference's history. With the win, UWF improves to 10-5 and 4-5 in the GSC, while SHC falls to 3-12 and 1-8 in the league.

Junior Allan Kuhne (Honolulu, Hawaii/Boca Raton Community HS) delivered a pass from the right side, finding Marteinn Urbancic (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) about 15 yards out as the Iceland native was able to record his team-high sixth goal in the 26th minute.. The Argos would head into halftime up 1-0, while holding a 9-1 advantage in shots in the first 45.

Jorge Chirinos would add some padding to the Argonauts lead in the 47th minute, as he received a cross in the box from Felipe Oliveira (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway HS) and provided UWF with a 2-0 lead. Chirinos' goal marks as his fourth of the season, while Oliveira tallies his team-high fifth assist of the year.

Spring Hill was able to put one shot in net, as Viktor Kvamlof recorded an 86th minute goal to cut West Florida's lead to 2-1.

Jacob Murray got the win in net for West Florida, as he recorded three saves on the afternoon. Murray now stands at 5-2 on the year and owns a 0.95 goals against average.

West Florida held a 17-5 advantage in shots, while having two corner opportunities in comparison to Spring Hill's zero. Urbancic lead the team in shots with seven, with five of them being on target.

With the tournament berth, the Argos will travel to the conference's No. 3 seed on Tuesday, which will be decided after the remainder of tonight's league games. Alabama Huntsville, Lee and West Alabama are the three potential teams that the Argos could square off with next week.
