Sofie Broch-Lips (Aarhus, Denmark/Marselisborg Gymnasium) and senior
Amber Pennybaker (Indianapolis, Ind./Tampa) in the match.
UWF held the ball on its offensive end for much of the game, outshooting the Hawks 27-3 during the match. The West Florida offense totaled nine shots on goal, two of which came from Broch-Lips, and the defense held Shorter to zero shots on goal.
The teams went scoreless for the first 32 minutes of the first half, before Broch-Lips received a cross from
Kaley Ward (Saint Cloud, Fla./Tampa) that deflected off
Daryl Bell (Sarasota, Fla./Southeast HS). The goal was Broch-Lips's second of the season, while Ward and Bell picked up their second and fifth assists of the year, respectively. UWF outshot Shorter 10-2 in the first half while taking 10 corner kicks.
West Florida came out aggressively in the second half, and it paid off quickly, as Pennybaker notched her fourth goal of the year in the 49th minute. Ward contributed to the second goal as well, putting in a low cross that found Pennybaker's feet in the box. The Argos outshot Shorter 17-1 in the second half.
Freshman keeper
Ana Chumik (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags HS) and the West Florida defense pitched another shutout, the team's fourth of the year. Chumik went 75 minutes before
Emily Grammer (Panama City, Fla./Mosley HS) took over in goal. Neither keeper had to face a shot in the match.
UWF will face No. 15 North Alabama on Military Appreciation Day next Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in Pensacola.
