TAMPA, Fla. –
The West Florida women's basketball team fought back from a double-digit deficit and trailed by just two in the final minute but was unable to get over the hump, falling to Rollins, 72-65, at the Martinez Center Saturday.

UWF (0-2) shot 42 percent and was 15-of-21 at the free throw line, but committed 21 turnovers that resulted in 28 points for the Tars.

Freshman Belle Bistrow led the Argos with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and four rebounds in 22 minutes. Senior Jasmine Wigfall rebounded from a rough performance against Tampa on Friday to add 13 points and four rebounds. Junior Katie Bobos and sophomore Courtney Meyer had nine apiece.

Rollins (1-1) was held to 38 percent shooting but controlled the paint with 19 offensive rebounds and a 20-5 edge in second chance points. Julia Ingler scored a career-high 24 which included 18 and all three of her 3-point field goals after halftime.

Rollins jumped out to an 8-2 lead and used that edge for a 18-11 first quarter lead. The Tars' lead stretched to 10 points 2:45 into the second frame. UWF closed to within 25-20, 1:14 later with five points from Alex Coyne and a pair of free throws by Courtney Meyer. The margin stayed between five and seven points before the Argos closed the half with three free throws and heading into the locker room facing a 34-30 score.

The Tars extended their advantage back to eight points midway through the third before the Argos countered with eight-consecutive from Bistrow to tie the game at 50-50. Rollins ended the period with a free throw and an offensive rebound and put back before the horn to stake a 54-51 lead.

Again the Tars pushed their edge to eight points, forcing UWF into rally mode. Meyer single-handedly brought the Argos back, scoring a layup, jumper and free throw on consecutive possessions to slice the difference to 67-65 with 1:32 remaining. But the Argos went cold, missing their final three shot attempts as Ingler made five free throws in the last 14 seconds to provide for the final margin.

UWF will be off for 10 days before traveling west to Mobile, Ala. for a contest at Spring Hill on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Tipoff at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
