MOBILE, Ala. – Sophomore Toni Brewer had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as the West Florida women's basketball team defeated Spring Hill, 57-44, at the Outlaw Recreation Center Tuesday.

UWF (1-2) shot just 37 percent but held a commanding 51-31 advantage in rebounds. The Argos used 16 on the offensive end to produce a 10-2 edge in second chance points.

In addition to Brewer's night, senior Jasmine Wigfall has a season- and game-high 15 points while junior Katie Bobos finished with 13. Junior Kelly Preston collected a career-high 13 rebounds to go along with seven points and three blocks.

SHC (1-3) was held to 32 percent shooting and 1 of 10 from outside. Camry Johnson led the Badgers with 10 points, 11 rebounds and three steals.

UWF found itself in a 4-0 hole after a pair of turnovers led to a pair of SHC layups. From there, the Argos found their groove, scoring 11-consecutive over the next three minutes. The Argonauts grabbed their largest lead of the contest late in the second quarter at 29-14 when Toni Brewer grabbed a rebound in the lane for a short jumper. The second quarter started out much like the first as the Badgers got two quick baskets in the opening minute, trimming the Argonaut lead to 30-25.

UWF used an 8-2 run capped by an Alex Coyne three-point play midway through the third to push the lead back to double digits at 38-27. The Badgers scored the final five of the quarter to climb within six at 42-36 entering the fourth. But the Argonauts controlled the final 10 minutes, outscoring the Badgers 15-8 in the period. UWF closed the game on a 11-4 run and held SHC to one field goal over the final 8:23.

UWF will return to action this weekend when it welcomes Young Harris (3-1) to the UWF Field House for the home opener. Tip-off is set for Noon.
