Bobos, Coyne Power UWF To 68-49 Win Over Young Harris

The Argos held their opponents under 50 points for the second-consecutive game

PENSACOLA Fla. – Katie Bobos had a double-double and Alex Coyne sparked two second-half runs that helped the West Florida women's basketball team pull away and defeat Young Harris, 68-49, in the home opener at the UWF Field House Saturday.
 
Bobos finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and three assists for her 12th career double-double and first this season. Coyne, a transfer from Southern Miss,, continued her strong play at the point guard spot, handing out seven assists for the third-consecutive game to go along with her career-high 20 points – on 7 of 10 shooting – and four steals.
 
Coyne had a 3-point play and made two of her game-high three 3-pointers in a 13-2 run early in the fourth quarter that turned a five point Argonaut lead into a comfortable 58-42 margin with 3:41 to play.
 
Toni Brewer scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Argos, who won their second game of the week.
 
UWF (2-2) shot 43 percent and was 14 of 15 from the free throw line. The Argos also held a 20-8 edge in points off turnovers.
 
Young Harris (3-2) shot just 32 percent and committed 18 turnovers. The Mountain Lions came into the contest averaging a Division II best 18.3 steals per game, but managed just four against the Argos. YH did hold a slight edge on the glass, 39-36, including 16-10 on the offensive end, but were outscored 14-0 in second chance points.
 
YH led for the opening seven minutes before a Jasmine Wigfall jumper gave UWF its first lead of the contest at 11-10. The Mountain Lions regained the lead in the early part of the second quarter, staking a 20-16 lead thanks to a Sara Jorgensen jumper and Briana Bell 3-pointer with 9:18 on the clock. Three consecutive buckets from Bobos put the Argos back on to, 22-20, near the midway point of the period. UWF eventually took a 30-29 lead into the locker room.
 
UWF came out on fire in the third, scoring the first seven points and using a 10-1 run for a 40-30 advantage at the 5-minute mark. They led 43-38 going into the fourth quarter.
 
UWF will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 2 when it opens Gulf South Conference play against Alabama Huntsville in an afternoon doubleheader at the UWF Field House. Tip-off for the women's game is set for 1 p.m. with the men's game at approximately 3 p.m.
