PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 23-ranked University of West Florida volleyball swept Mississippi College 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-5) at home on Tuesday night. West Florida (23-5, 15-1 GSC) increased its lead for first place in the Gulf South Conference standings to one match with the win and swept its 19th opponent of the season.
West Florida tallied an impressive .417 team attack percentage in the win with 47 kills and only seven attack errors.
Senior
Autumn Duyn (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) had 11 kills on 14 swings with no errors at a .786 clip while sophomore
Katy Kuhlmeier (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln HS) tallied 11 kills on 23 swings with no errors at a .478 clip and three service aces.
Junior
Kathryn Torre (Highland, Ill./State College of Florida) had 10 kills on 19 swings with only one attack error at a .474 clip with two blocks.
Sophomore
Monique StCyr (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown HS) led the team with 39 assists and three service aces while junior
Tori Martella (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence HS) had a team-high 24 digs.
UWF dominated the third set by a score of 25-5 behind a .577 team attack percentage. West Florida tallied 15 kills with no errors on 26 swings while holding Mississippi College to only two kills in the set. Duyn and Kuhlmeier each tallied five kills while Torre added three kills and a block in the final set.
West Florida led 16-5 late in the third set before Kuhlmeier tallied back-to-back service aces to extend the lead to 18-5 before tallying a service ace to clinch the match.
West Florida will continue GSC competition on the road next week as they face Union (Tenn.) on Friday, November 6 at 7 p.m. CT before facing Christian Brothers on Saturday, November 7 at 2 p.m. CT.
