TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The West Florida women's basketball team was unable to overcome a late first quarter scoring drought and the interior size advantage that No. 7 Florida State possessed, falling 99-36 in an exhibition game at the Donald Tucker Center Sunday.

UWF shot just 25 percent from the floor and committed 27 turnovers. The Argonauts were 3-of-10 from outside and 9-of-14 from the free throw line. Reserves Kyla Muhammad and Courtney Meyer led the team in scoring with seven points apiece.

FSU had six players in double figures and shot 53 percent in the game. The Seminoles scored 60 points in the paint and turned 27 offensive rebounds into 29 second chance points.

FSU opened the game on a 7-0 run and led 11-2 at the midway point of the first quarter. UWF battled back with seven-consecutive on  a jumper and 3-pointer by Belle Bistrow and a bucket by Jasmine Wigfall, pulling to within 11-9 with 3:27 on the clock. But the Seminoles turned up the intensity and closed the frame on a 12-1 run for a 23-10 lead.

UWF will open the regular-season in Tampa this Friday and Saturday at the Spartan Challenge. The Argos – who are the second team receiving votes in the USA Today Sports/WBCA Coaches Preseason Top-25 Poll – will face 20th-ranked Tampa on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time and Rollins on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. ET.
