Around the GSC
Over half of the Gulf South Conference Tournament field was sealed up last week as five squads punch their tickets to the post-season with Alabama Huntsville, Shorter, West Georgia, West Alabama and Union extending their respective campaigns. Â There was a changing of the guard atop the standings after a pair of wins by UAH coupled with back-to-back losses by SU and UWG vaulted the Chargers into sole possession of first-place (12-5). Â UWA also benefited from consecutive home triumphs, moving into a three-way tie for second-place with Shorter and West Georgia at 11-6. Â The entire Tournament field could be decided this Thursday as Christian Brothers, Delta State and North Alabama are on the cusp of securing spots. Â CBU and DSU share sixth-place (9-8), while UNA and Mississippi College are tied for eighth-place at 8-9.Â
Â
There will be more shake up towards the top of the standings this week, as Shorter travels to West Georgia on Thursday before going to West Alabama on Saturday. Â UWG and SU will keep the scoreboard operator busy as they rank first (86.6 ppg) and second (86.5) in scoring, respectively. Â Alabama Huntsville seeks to build on its three-game winning streak, while also preserving its one-game first-place lead by traveling to Delta State on Thursday and Mississippi College on Saturday. Â Christian Brothers and Delta State control their respective post-season destinies with wins on Thursday, while North Alabama needs a victory to strengthen its Tournament chances. Â CBU hosts West Florida and Valdosta State this week, while UNA goes to DSU on Saturday.
