MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The West Florida women's basketball team overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Christian Brothers 63-51 and extend its winning streak to four Thursday night in Memphis, Tenn.
It's the third time the Argonauts (17-5, 14-4) have had a four-game winning streak this season, their season-high. The Buccaneers (7-17, 5-13) led most of the first half and 29-26 at halftime, but UWF went on a 17-2 run early in the second half to run away with the win.
"We needed to make two corrections at the half: rebound better and make layups," UWF coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We were able to make those corrections in the second half to get the win.
Alyssa Dupree-Moore stepped up with huge three-point buckets to stretch the lead.
Courtney Meyer is coming into her own, which is giving us more depth and an even bigger presence in the paint."
Meyer (Onalaska, Wisc./Onalaska HS) led UWF with 16 points, five rebounds and two blocks, and
Brianna Williams (Minneapolis, Minn./North Dakota) scored 15 with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Jasmine Wigfall (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek HS) recorded the first double-double of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds and two blocks.
UWF sits in second in the Gulf South Conference standings and travels to take on first-place Union (Tenn.) Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.
