JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of West Florida women's basketball team fell to Union (Tenn.) 74-62 on the road Saturday afternoon. West Florida (17-6, 14-5 GSC) falls two games behind the Gulf South Conference leading Bulldogs with three regular season games remaining.
The Argonauts were led offensively by junior
Kyla Muhammad (Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola HS) who scored 19 points and went 2-for-2 from behind the three-point line. Freshman
Toni Brewer (Huntsville, Ala./Sparkman HS) tallied a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
"The one statistical category we didn't win tonight was three-point field goals," UWF coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We allowed too many. However, I was proud of our competitiveness during a tough game. We had improved play from many players today which helped compensate for foul trouble.
"I'm happy for
Toni Brewer, who recorded another double-double, and
Kyla Muhammad who gave us significant production."
Union (Tenn.) held West Florida to 33.9 percent from the field and had seven blocks and five steals. The Bulldogs shot 47.3 percent from the field in the win and went 16-for-26 in the second half.
UWF will next play host to GSC opponent West Georgia on Friday, Thursday 19 at 5 p.m. CT before facing West Alabama on Saturday, February 21 at 2 p.m. CT.
