Argos drop two games of doubleheader at No. 2 VSU

Jessica Wilkinson hit her second homer of the season in the first game of the doubleheader

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The West Florida softball team lost both games of a doubleheader on the road at No. 2 Valdosta State Saturday afternoon in Valdosta, Ga.
 
The Argonauts (1-11, 0-5) lost game one 7-3 and game two 8-0 to the six-time defending Gulf South Conference champion Blazers (13-2, 4-1).
 
Game One: West Florida 3, Valdosta State 7
 
UWF got on the board first after Chelsy Krantz (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Iowa Central CC) singled to left and stole home later in the first inning. VSU scored seven unanswered until a two-run, sixth inning home run by Jessica Wilkinson (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) cut the lead to 7-3.
 
Kalyn Chapman (Boonville, Ind./Wabash Valley JC) was credited with the loss after allowing five runs on six hits with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
 
Krantz finished the game 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.
 
Game Two: West Florida 0, Valdosta State 8
 
VSU took an early 4-0 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the first and second innings. The Blazers added to their total with a run in the fifth, and finished the game with a walk-off double to right center in a three-run sixth.
 
Sarah Maloney (Tamarac, Fla./Cypress Bay HS) took the loss after going five innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits with three strikeouts.
 
Jordan Camp (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley HS) went 2-for-2 in the game.
 
UWF will conclude the series at Valdosta State Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. ET.
