VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 7-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team fell to No. 2 Armstrong State 0-9 on the campus of Valdosta State University on Saturday afternoon. West Florida (2-1, 1-0 GSC) drops its' first match of the season against a tough Peach Belt Conference opponent.
"Today we faced a really tough team but I thought our girls fought hard," head coach
Derrick Racine said. "The doubles matches were a lot closer than the scores show and I think this was good for us to face some top competition this early in the season to see where we stack up."
The No. 10-ranked doubles team of seniors
Laure-Eline Faure (Toulouse, France) and
Monika Kochanova (Bratislava, Slovakia) lost 4-8 at number one doubles while senior
Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) and junior
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) fell at number two doubles 1-8.
Junior
Nina Bubelova (Pova'sk' Bystrica, Slovakia) and senior
Fernanda Amaral (Curitiba, Brazil) lost 4-8 at number three doubles.
No. 4 Kochanova fell to No. 3 Clara Perez in a close match at number one singles by a score of 5-7, 3-6. Faure fell to No. 29 Lena Lutzeier at number two singles 5-7, 3-6.
Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) lost to No. 11 Carolina Pratts-Milan at number three singles 3-6, 1-6 while Bubelova fell at number four singles 2-6, 0-6.
Amaral lost at number five singles by a score of 0-6, 0-6 while junior
Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) fell at number six singles 3-6, 0-6.
West Florida will next face No. 9 Rollins on Sunday, February 22 at 10 a.m. ET in Valdosta, Ga.
