UWF softball takes series with CBU after 6-2 win on Saturday

All nine in the Argonaut lineup record a hit

PENSACOLA, Fla. – After a doubleheader split on Friday, the West Florida softball team defeated Christian Brothers 6-2 on Saturday to take the series. All nine batters in the Argonaut lineup recorded hits, and sophomore Rebecca Hein (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) pitched a complete game in the win.

"We've been waiting for our hitters, our pitchers and our defense to perform well on the same day," said UWF head coach Melissa Paul. "It finally came about today. Hopefully these wins will help get us rolling and bring some momentum into our midweek games at Columbus State and our conference games next weekend at Union."

Hein scattered 10 hits and did not walk a batter in the seven-inning complete game win for UWF (3-13, 2-7 GSC). She allowed two runs, one earned, while striking out seven. CBU (4-13, 2-7 GSC) starter Kylie Steagall (2-5) was credited with the loss after allowing four runs in 3.1 innings pitched.

First baseman Jenna Belser (Chipley, Fla.) had another strong day at the plate, hitting 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run and one RBI. Hannah Camp (Hoover, Ala.), Chelsy Krantz (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and Kaylen Rowell (Pensacola, Fla.) also had multi-hit games for UWF.

CBU led after scoring one in the top of the first, but the Argos tied the score on an RBI single by Rowell in the bottom of the inning. UWF then took a 2-1 lead in the third inning on Belser's second double of the game and fourth of the series. The Argos added two insurance runs on a single by NiCole Dobernecker (Charter Oak, Iowa) in the fourth, and they scored again with runs in the 5th and 6th.

The next five games for UWF will be on the road, and the first two of those will be in a non-conference doubleheader at Columbus State on Wednesday, March 4 at 2 p.m. ET. The Argos will then face Union (Tenn.) in the Gulf South Conference series on March 7-8. For information on all UWF athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
