GAME NOTES: West Florida travels to West Georgia for GSC series

Argos to take on UWG and Miles College during week 8 of 2015 season

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of West Florida softball team will look to improve on its 6-20 record this week when they travel to Carrollton, Georgia to face the University of West Georgia on March 21-22.

The Argonauts (6-20, 3-12) will follow up the Gulf South Conference match-up with a non-conference doubleheader with Miles College on Wednesday, March 25.

West Florida returns to action after previously facing No. 8 Alabama-Huntsville in Pensacola, Florida. The Argos were swept in three games the eighth ranked Chargers. UWF's best individual performance came from junior Lauren Register (Vernon, Fla./Vernon HS) who went six innings in the final game and only gave up five hits and two earned runs in a 2-0 loss.
 
Previewing West Georgia

West Florida will be on the road this weekend for just the third time of the season when they travel to face the West Georgia Wolves. The Wolves (12-15, 5-10 GSC) are currently seventh in the GSC standings and return home after getting swept 3-0 by Shorter University March 15-16.

So far this season, opponents are out hitting the Wolves .295 to .281 and UWG is led offensively by Randi Phillips who is ranked 12th in the GSC in batting average at .372. She also is tied for sixth in the conference with 23 RBI and tied for first with 10 doubles. 

Leading things for the Wolves in the circle is Katie Turner who has compiled a 3-2 record so far this season. She currently ranks 10th in the GSC with a 2.42 ERA in 34.2 innings.
 
Previewing Miles

The Miles College Golden Bears come into the weekend's action having yet to win a single game. The Golden Bears currently have a 0-13 (0-3 SIAC) record but will face Tuskegee University before facing the Argos on March 25.
 
Around The GSC

The sun is shining and the birds are chirping as winter starts to make way for spring. Another seven contests were either canceled or postponed last week because of unplayable conditions, but the GSC now sits three inside the NFCA National Top 15 with No. 2 Valdosta State, No. 7 Alabama Huntsville and No. 15 North Alabama.
