GAME NOTES: Argos face Union (Tenn.) for GSC series at home

UWF returns home March 7-8 and March 10 for doubleheader against Mercyhurst

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of West Florida softball team continues Gulf South Conference play at home this weekend despite having originally been scheduled to play on the road. The Argonauts (4-14, 2-7 GSC) host Union (Tenn.) University for a three game series that was meant to be played in Jackson, Tennessee but was moved to Pensacola in hopes to avoid inclement weather.

West Florida will face the Lady Bulldogs in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 7 with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. CT. UWF and UU will wrap-up the series with a single game on Sunday, March 8 at 1 p.m. CT.

The Argos will then play host to Mercyhurst University on Tuesday, March 10 for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. CT.
 
Previewing Union (Tenn.)

After having their series moved to Pensacola, West Florida and Union (Tenn.) will resume GSC play this weekend. The Lady Bulldogs currently have an overall record of 11-7 and are in seventh place in the GSC standings with a record of 3-5. 

UU last played on Monday, March 2 where the faced Bethel University for a non-conference doubleheader. Union defeated the NAIA opponent in both games by scores of 3-1 in game one, and 14-8 in game two.

Union's pitcher Kelly Robey is the reigning GSC and Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Softball Pitcher of the Week after she compiled a 2-1 record in 16.0 innings last weekend. Over the weekend she allowed only one earned run on nine hits and totaled 22 strikeouts. Entering this weekend, Robey leads the Gulf South Conference with 125 strikeouts. 

The Lady Bulldogs are led at the plate by Reagan Schrader who ranks ninth in the GSC with a .414 batting average. So far this season, she is second on the team with four doubles and 10 RBI, and leads UU with 26 hits.
 
Previewing Mercyhurst

The Argos will then take part in another non-conference match-up when they host Mercyhurst University on Tuesday, March 10 for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. CT. 

The Lakers (1-3, 0-0 PSAC) have only taken the field in four games so far this season because of cancellations and postponements but will compete in the 2015 Captain D's Surf and Turf Classic hosted by the University of North Georgia this weekend. MU will face North Georgia, Mckendree University, and Wayne State University throughout the tournament.
