ROME, Ga. – The University of West Florida softball team dropped its final game at Shorter University Sunday afternoon. The Argonauts (15-28, 7-19 GSC) fell in the game 8-2 and lost all three games in the three game series over the weekend.
 
Shorter jumped to a quick lead over the Argos after they scored two runs in the first inning. The Hawks would add four more runs in the third inning and took an early 6-0 lead over UWF. West Florida got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Jessica Wilkinson (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) drove in Kaylen Rowell (Pensacola, Fla./Tate HS) from third.
 
However, the Hawks would respond in the bottom of the fourth inning with two more runs and took an 8-1 lead headed into the fifth inning. Senior Jenna Belser (Chipley, Fla./Holmes County HS) would add another run for UWF when she hit a solo homerun in the fifth inning, but failed to produce another run and fell 8-2 in the final game of the series.
 
West Florida was led by Wilkinson who went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and RBI while Belser and Rowell each went 1-for-3 in the game and each tallied an RBI.
 
The Argos will be on the road again next weekend when they travel to Livingston, Alabama to face the University of West Alabama for a three game series.
