GAME NOTES: UWF softball to play final road games of 2015 regular season at UWA

Argos face the Tigers April 19 and April 20

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of West Florida softball team will play its final road games of 2015 this weekend in Livingston, Alabama. The Argonauts (15-28, 7-19 GSC) will face the University of West Alabama for a three game series April 19-20. The series will start with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 19 slated to begin at 2 p.m. CT, followed by a single game on Monday, April 20 starting at 1 p.m. CT.
 
Previewing West Alabama

West Alabama enters the weekend with a 17-22 (9-17 GSC) record so far this season and is one of four teams fighting for the final spot in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. The top six teams advance to the tournament and the top four spots have already been clinched. Union (Tenn.) University stands in the fifth spot while Delta State University, UWA, UWF and the University of West Georgia all hope to be in sixth at the end of the regular season. The Argos wrap-up the regular season at home against Delta State April 25-26.

West Alabama last opponent was Union (Tenn.) where the Tigers lost the three game series 2-1 to the Lady Bulldogs.

UWA has four student-athletes batting over .300 this season and are led by Ashley Stassin who averages .384 (48-125) at the plate. Stassin ranks second in the GSC with 11 homeruns this season and has 44 RBI, ranking her fourth in the GSC. Her 48 hits on the season rank her eighth in the conference and has the fourth best slugging percentage in the GSC (.720).

Leading things in the circle for the Tigers is Alli Hall who has made 28 appearances this season and has compiled a 9-16 record. In 133.2 innings, Hall has a 5.66 ERA, 60 strikeouts, and opponents are batting .306 against her. Stassin has also made 20 appearances in the circle for UWA and has a 7-2 record with a 4.82 ERA.
 
UWF's Weekend Baseball and Softball Games Moved Back One Day

The West Florida baseball and softball teams' weekend Gulf South Conference games at West Alabama have been pushed back one day due to inclement weather in the forecast. The Argonauts will now play Sunday-Monday series.
 
Baseball will play a doubleheader on Sunday, April 19 starting at 1 p.m. CT and softball will play a doubleheader Sunday starting at 2 p.m. CT. Both teams will conclude the series with a single game on Monday, April 20 at 1 p.m. CT.

Around the GSC

Valdosta State was the first team in the country to reach the 40-win plateau last week. The Blazers reigned at the top of the NFCA National Poll and are just three conference wins away from hosting the 2015 GSC Softball Tournament. Four teams have now locked up spots toward the conference tournament in VSU, No. 11 Alabama Huntsville, No. 13 North Alabama and, in its first season of eligibility, Shorter.
