Women's Soccer Shines In Home Opener With 2-0 Shutout

Daryl Bell and Bri Young each scored as the Argonauts took 29 shots

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team opened the home portion of the 2015 season with a solid 2-0 victory over Montevallo at the UWF Soccer Complex Tuesday.

UWF (5-1) took a season-high 29 shots and posted its second-consecutive shutout.

The Argos got on the board in the 13th minute when sophomore Daryl Bell took a pass from senior Amber Pennybaker and scored her fourth goal of the year.

UWF added another score 11 minutes into the second half. Playing off one of its 13 corner kicks, junior Kaley Ward found the ball in the box and fed sophomore Bri Young who recorded her first goal of the year.

The Argonauts controlled possession for the majority of the contest and yielded just three shots to Montevallo (1-4-2). Junior Emily Grammer was up to the task as she corralled the only two that ended up on goal in her first start of the campaign.

A total of 10 different players attempted a shot for UWF, with Young attempting a game-high five.

UWF will return to Gulf South Conference play this weekend with a pair of road games at Union (Tenn.) on Friday at 5 p.m. CT and Christian Brothers on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
