Christian Brothers: LIVE STATS AND VIDEO

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team (5-1) will continue Gulf South Conference play this weekend, as it travels to Tennessee for matches against Union University and Christian Brothers University. UWF will face Union on Friday at 5 p.m. in Jackson, Tennessee, and CBU at 1 p.m. in South Memphis on Saturday.

Winning with defense

The UWF defense ranks at the top of the GSC in goals allowed per game, standing at 0.83. The team has shut out its last two opponents, Spring Hill and Montevallo, and allowed just five goals in its first four games, including a lone goal against No. 1 Rollins in a 5-1 victory.

Credit is due in part to the play in goal by freshman Ana Chumik, who has started five of UWF's six games and holds a 1.03 GAA in those games with 4-1 record. Emily Grammer and Katelyn Burkhart have also spent some time in goal, holding opponents scoreless in a combined 104 minutes.

Without question, the defenders have done their parts too, with the team holding its opposition to just seven shots per game and just 20 shots on goal for the entire year. In UWF's last two games, the team has outshot its opponents 56-4.

Ringing the Bell

UWF sophomore and 2014 All-GSC First Team member Daryl Bell netted her fourth goal of the season against Montevallo on Tuesday, and it was her third game-winner. Bell ranks fourth in all of Division II and first in the GSC with those three game-winning goals, following a freshman season in which she scored one game-winner. Bell has also added a team-high three assists.

Spreading the wealth

The UWF women's soccer program has boasted a strong offense for years, and the 2015 team is no different. The Argos rank in the top 20 nationally in several offensive categories, including points, assists and total goals. Kaley Ward leads the team in goals with six, while Bell and Amber Pennybaker have totaled four and three goals on the year, respectively. UWF has five other players who have scored at least once on the season.

Scouting Union and CBU

Union will bring an offense that has struggled to get going early in the season, putting up just two goals in the team's first six games. The Bulldogs are led offensively by Kelsey Wilkes and Honeye Heydari, who have each scored a goal.

CBU brings in a more potent offense and a strong defense to match it. Led by 2014 All-GSC First Team member Camilla Rodrigues (3 goals, 4 assists, 10 points), the Bucs have averaged 2.5 goals per game and have allowed just a goal per game, good for third in the GSC.

The Argos are 3-0 all time against Union, and have an 18-7 record in their history with Christian Brothers.
