September 27, 2015 BOX SCORE MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team defeated Christian Brothers 2-0 in a Gulf South Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon. With the win, UWF improves to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the GSC on the season, while CBU drops to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first half, with UWF putting up six shots to CBU's one in the first 45 minutes. West Florida's defense held strong yet again, allowing the Bucs to take just one shot in the half.
Kaley Ward (Saint Cloud, Fla./Tampa) struck for her seventh goal of the year to give the Argos a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute.
Daryl Bell (Sarasota, Fla./Southeast HS) was credited with an assist on the play, her team-best fourth of the year. Bell added her fifth goal of the season after knocking in a penalty kick in the 67th minute, extending the Argonauts' lead to 2-0.
Ward, a transfer from region rival Tampa, has recorded at least one point in six of her first eight games as an Argonaut, and Bell has done the same in five of her first eight games this year. The two lead UWF in total points, with Ward holding a slight 15-14 advantage on the season.
UWF put a stellar defense on the pitch again, as the Argos held CBU to just one shot on the day. The Argonauts defense has held opponents to just six goals in eight games on the season, and opponents have gotten off six or fewer total shots in six of those eight games. Thanks in large part to a staunch UWF defense, West Florida has more than tripled the amount of goals, total shots and shots on goal its opponents have recorded this year.
West Florida will host Lee and Shorter on Friday, October 2nd, and Sunday, October 4th, at the UWF Soccer Complex in Pensacola. Game times are set for 5 p.m. Friday and 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
