CLINTON, Miss. – The No. 21-ranked University of West Florida volleyball team swept Gulf South Conference opponent Mississippi College 3-0 (25-13, 25-7, 25-19) on the road Tuesday night. West Florida (12-2, 5-0 GSC) earns its eighth straight victory and remains unbeaten in the GSC.
"This is the first time this season that we've had to travel and play in the same day," head coach
Melissa Wolter. "So I'm really proud of our team sticking to the game plan. I thought we played really low-error volleyball tonight. Our kills combined with our blocks made us a really hard team to beat tonight and I'm pleased with our performance."
The Argonauts tallied a season-high team attacking percentage (.393) in the win over the Choctaws and tallied 44 kills with a season-low nine attack errors in the win. West Florida previously had a season-best team attacking percentage of .342 to start the season against Missouri St. Louis and had a previous season-low 12 attack errors against West Alabama.
West Florida came out strong to open the match behind a .619 team attacking percentage in the first set that featured 14 kills and only one attack error. The UWF offense was spread out to open the match as four Argos tallied three kills each en route to 25-13 win in the first set. Junior
Kathryn Torre (Highland, Ill./State College of Florida) had three kills at a 1.000 clip and three blocks to lead the team in the opening set.
UWF got out to an early 9-1 lead to start the second set and would go on to dominate the set by a score of 25-7. West Florida was efficient again offensively tallying 10 kills with only two attack errors in second set while Mississippi College had 10 attack errors in set. Katy Kuhlmeier (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln HS) put down three straight kills to extend the lead to 22-5 before getting the final kill to clinch the set at 25-7.
Freshman
Hannah Beach (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain HS) tallied a team-high 19 assists all in the third set and added a block to lead UWF in the final set. UWF took the third set by a score of 25-19 as senior
Autumn Duyn (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) tallied four kills (.444) while Kuhlmeier added four kills at a .375 clip.

Sophomore
Emily Cosgrove (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain HS) tied her season-best mark of five blocks in the win while sophomore
Monique StCyr (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown HS) added 16 assists and a pair of service aces. Junior
Cora Bidlack (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) added seven kills at a .538 clip while Torre ended the night with seven kills (.500) and four blocks.
UWF will next play host to a pair of conference opponents at home this weekend. West Florida will face Christian Brothers on Friday, October 2 at 6 p.m. CT before facing Union (Tenn.) on Saturday, October 3 at 2 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
