UWF bests Southern Nazarene with persistent attack and strong backline

Soren Yuhaschek and Stephen Enderlin contribute goals in Labor Day afternoon matchup

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida men's soccer team was triumphant over Southern Nazarene on Monday afternoon, beating the Crimson Storm by a score of 2-0. UWF builds on its opening night win against Tampa and improves to 2-0, while Southern Nazarene drops to 0-2.

Having a free kick in prime position, senior Soren Yuhaschek (Orlando, Fla./Freedom HS) was able to tally the first Argonauts goal off a feed from junior Marteinn Urbancic (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) in the 19th minute. West Florida would head into the halftime break leading 1-0, but added some insurance with freshman Stephen Enderlin's (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic High School for Boys) first collegiate goal in the 61st minute. Sophomore Tristan Rehrig (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo HS) set up Enderlin as Rehrig ran down the left side and crossed it in front of the Crimson Storm net, giving Enderlin the chance to put it away.

Starting defenders in Yuhaschek, freshman Michael Starkey (Huddersfield, England/Newsome HS), junior Japhet Bitsindou (Fontenay sous bois, France/Ecole des Merlus), and senior Andrew Bruce (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips HS) played an integral role in keeping Southern Nazarene off the scoreboard and only allowing six shots in the game. Southern Nazarene sent two shots on net, with both being stopped by sophomore Jacob Murray (West Palm Beach, Fla./Seminole Ridge HS) who earned his first win in net as a member of the Argonauts soccer program. UWF defenders were also able to keep the pressure on the Southern Nazarene forwards in the second half, as the Crimson Storm failed to get off a shot in the last 45 minutes.

The Argonauts dominated in shots, outshooting Southern Nazarene 22-6, while also having the advantage in corner kicks, 8-4.

West Florida plays its first road matchup of the season on Friday, as UWF travels to Winter Park, Florida to take on Rollins for a 7:00 p.m. tilt. The Argonauts will then travel to Lakeland, Florida to take on Florida Southern on Sunday, September 13th for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
