Argonauts Extend Winning Streak to Four Games With Win at AUM

Ward, Garcia-Salas score goals in the victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. Kaley Ward scored her eighth goal of the season to give West Florida the lead, and freshman Isabella Garcia-Salas sealed the deal with her first collegiate goal to give UWF a 2-0 win over Auburn-Montgomery on Friday. UWF posted its ninth shutout of the year and improved to 10-3 with the win.

Ward's goal in the 59th minute proved to be the game-winner, and it tied the senior native for the team lead with eight goals. Senior midfielder Sara Helgadottir assisted on the goal, giving her eight helpers on the year. Ward's eight goals and Helgadottir's eight assists each rank second in the Gulf South Conference.

Garcia-Salas stretched the lead to 2-0 with a shot into the lower left corner of the net after she beat several AUM defenders. It was the Guatemala City native's first goal of the season, getting help from a Savanna Soares pass that found Marjorie Boilesen, before Boilesen connected with Garcia-Salas. Boilesen was credited with an assist on the play, giving her eight on the year.

The defense was clicking on all cylinders on Friday, as UWF outshot AUM 15-2 on the evening. West Florida has allowed just two shots on goal in the past four games and holds a 0.77 goals against average, which ranks second in the conference.

Further showing UWF's dominance in the match were the Argonauts' 14 corner kicks, compared to AUM's 1. West Florida has earned seven of its 10 wins by multiple goals this season.

West Florida will host Spring Hill at the UWF Soccer Complex for a 12:30 p.m. game on Sunday. The Badgers stand at 0-9-3 on the year with a 0-5-2 conference mark.
