PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida improved its record to 11-3 and added another conference win with a 5-0 victory over Spring Hill on Sunday. Freshman
Marjorie Boilesen took the Gulf South Conference lead in assists with three helpers on the day, and she now has 11 on the season. The Argonauts now stand at 8-0 in the GSC and have a three-point lead over Lee in the standings.
In addition to holding their lead in the conference standings, the Argonauts kept their clean sheets going with a fifth consecutive shutout and their conference-best 10th shutout of the season, and they still have not allowed a goal in conference play this year.
Sara Helgadottir picked up her ninth assist of the year, moving into second place in the conference in the category, and
Kaley Ward moved into second place in the conference with her ninth goal of the year. And with another 31 scoreless minutes in goal,
Katelyn Burkhart improved her goals against average to a GSC-best .401.
West Florida totaled 25 shots, compared to just two for the Badgers, and posted nine shots on target. The Badgers had just one shot on goal, and UWF has allowed just three shots on goal in its last five games.
Svenja Burkhardt scored her second goal of the season, putting the Argonauts ahead 1-0 in the fifth minute of the game against the Badgers. West Florida continued to stay in the lead with Ward's 25th-minute netter, with Boilesen's assistance. Soon after that,
Alisa Festagallo found the net for the second time this year, again with an assist from Boilesen, putting UWF up 3-0.
The Argonauts started off the second half on a strong foot, with
Leonie Kreil scoring in the 46th minute of the game, putting the team up 4-0.
Kaljit Atwal converted on a penalty kick late in the half, scoring her second goal of the year and extending the lead to the final score of 5-0.
West Florida hosts Alabama Huntsville on Friday at 5 p.m. at the UWF Soccer Complex. The Chargers enter the weekend at 7-7 with a 3-6 conference mark.
