Clinton, Miss. – The University of West Florida volleyball squad extended its winning streak to five while lengthening its streak of consecutive sets won to 14 in a dominating 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-13) performance over Gulf South Conference foe Mississippi College on Tuesday evening.
The defense was on display early for the Argonauts, as MC (8-17, 1-13 GSC) could not muster much of anything offensively by posting six kills and seven errors for a -0.28 attack percentage in the first set. The Argonauts utilized that defense and coasted to a 25-11 first set victory.
UWF's (19-6, 12-1 GSC) offense was dominant in the second set, recording 18 kills on 40 attempts with just four attack errors. UWF recorded its most dominant set in the third by hitting a red-hot .458 and limiting MC to a dismal -0.31-success rate. UWF had its longest streak in the second set, when it led 15-13 and rattled off seven consecutive points for a comfortable 22-13 lead.
Tori Martella posted 18 digs to lead all players in the match, which is her second highest total in a three-set match this season. Martella now stands just 11 digs shy of the program's all-time career record.
The Argos had five players with seven kills or more, and was led by
Kourtney Pittaway who posted nine kills on 19 swings for a .474 attack percentage.
Rachel Neblett led all players in the match with a .538 hitting percentage and has now hit .400 or better in nine of her last 10 matches.
Monique StCyr recorded 37 assists in the win, while
Kathryn Torre posted nine kills while
Corisha Smith and
Cora Bidlack each added seven kills.
Bidlack also contributed with five blocks, which stands as her second highest total in any match this season.
The Argonauts continue its string of road matches this weekend, when it plays Shorter on Friday at 5:00 p.m. before visiting Lee on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
