Argos Silence Bulldogs On Senior Night

UWF used 10 blocks and a season-high 13 aces to collect the win

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF volleyball team hit .301 and had a season-high 13 service aces in a 3-0 victory over Union on Senior Night at the UWF Field House Friday.
 
In addition to its strong offense, UWF (21-8, 14-3 Gulf South) had 10 blocks and held Union to a .116 hitting pct. The Argos have held their last eight opponents to .170 or worse.
 
Senior Corisha Smith had a match-high 11 kills, while classmate Kathryn Torre and junior Rachel Neblett posetd five blocks apiece.
 
Freshman Jordyn Poppen came off the bench to serve up a career-high five aces while adding seven kills – her third-consecutive match with at least seven winners. Junior setter Monique StCyr had 27 assists, six kills and seven digs.
 
With the opening set tied at seven, UWF posted eight straight points to take a 15-7 lead before Union grabbed the lead with a 4-0 run to go up 22-21. The Bulldogs led again at 23-22, but could not put away the Argos. UWF took the lead for good two points later and eventually won the set 29-27, converting on its fifth set point opportunity.
 
Union led 5-3 in the second set before the Argonauts took control of the match. UWF used a 10-2 run en route to a 25-15 decision. UWF hit .462 in the set with 14 kills and just two hitting errors.
 
The Argos never trailed in the final set, securing 4-0 and 7-0 runs to distance itself from the visitors. UWF won 25-15 and put down six blocks in the frame.

Union (9-19, 6-11) was led by Deja Moorer' nine kills.

UWF will return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when it plays host to Christian Brothers (15-12, 10-7) on Parents Day at the UWF Field House. It will be the final regular-season home match for the Argonauts.
