PENSACOLA, Fla. – Kathryn Torre and
Corisha Smith each posted 10 kills in the University of West Florida's 3-0 sweep of Christian Brothers at the UWF Field House on Saturday afternoon.
In both the first and second set, UWF utilized hot starts to set the tone and jump out to a 2-0 lead. UWF used a 6-0 run at the start of the first, and a 7-2 run at the start of the second set. UWF hit .429 in the first set and did not commit an error, while holding CBU to a .000 attack percentage.
The start of the third set was back-and-forth, but with the score tied a 5-5, UWF put the third set out of reach with a 9-1 run to gain a 14-6 lead.
Each of UWF's last seven wins have now come in sweeping fashion. West Florida volleyball has now won 61 consecutive regular season home matches, a streak that dates all the way back to Oct. 24, 2009.
Monique StCyr posted 36 assists and helped UWF post its second best single-match hitting percentage of the season at .425.
Kathryn Torre recorded her second highest single-match hitting percentage of the season at .643 after recording 10 kills on 14 swings. Torre also posted a match-high six blocks.
Corisha Smith added 10 kills on 17 swings for a .471 attack percentage.
Jordyn Poppen matched her career high with eight kills and did so with a .353 attack percentage, while
Cora Bidlack recorded a season-best .462 attack percentage to go along with six kills.
Tori Martella and
Sarah Hayman had a share of the match's lead in digs with eight apiece. UWF held a 41-34 advantage in digs for the contest.
UWF only committed five attack errors in the match, which stands as the team's second lowest total of the year. The Argos held the Bucs to just a .056 attack percentage, and CBU was held back by committing 19 errors in the match.
West Florida, who is currently in a three-way tie atop the Gulf South Conference standings with Shorter and North Alabama, wraps up the regular season with UNA and Alabama Huntsville next weekend.
