UWF Splits Season Series With No. 9/11 Union After 70-59 Setback

Katie Bobos posted her eighth double double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's basketball team fell to No. 9/11 Union at the UWF Field House on Saturday afternoon by a score of 70-59. West Florida, who gave Union one of their two losses of the season on Jan. 2 by a score of 75-67, splits the season series with the current Gulf South Conference standings leader. The Lady Bulldogs now extend their winning streak to 12 games and own a three-game lead for first place in the conference. UWF now sits in third place in the GSC.
 
West Florida (15-8, 13-6 GSC) started the game strong, ending the first quarter with an 18-11 lead. UWF was able to build its lead as high as 10 in the second quarter, however Union was able to battle back and go into halftime with a 34-32 lead.
 
Kelly Preston set a new career-high in rebounds, leading UWF with 14 boards on the afternoon. Katie Bobos helped out on the glass with 10 rebounds, while adding 10 points for her eighth double double of the season. Aneesa Watson led the Argonauts with a career-high 11 points.
 
Kelsey Risner led Union (23-2, 17-2) with a game-high 27 points, including seven three-pointers and a key 15-foot buzzer beater that put Union up by two points before the conclusion of the first half. Tiara Caldwell added 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs while reeling in nine rebounds.
 
UWF suffers the loss despite shooting 40.3% from the field in comparison to Union's 39.7%. The Argos also outrebounded the Bulldogs 41-33, while Union held the edge in long range shooting at a 40% (10-25) success rate against UWF's 35% (7-20).
 
West Florida plays two of its final three games of the regular season this week, as the Argos will hit the road to play West Georgia on Thursday at 5:30 ET before heading to Livingston, Alabama to play West Alabama on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
