CARROLLTON, Ga. – The West Florida women's basketball team struggled to find a rhythm on Thursday night, falling to West Georgia, 67-60, at The Coliseum.
The loss drops West Florida (15-9, 13-7 Gulf South) into fifth place in the league standings. The Argos are now a game back of third and two out of second with two games remaining in the regular season. The top four teams will host a GSC Championship first round game.
UWF shot 44 percent and made eight 3-pointers but committed 15 turnovers that West Georgia converted into 24 points.
Freshman
Katie O'Neal had a career game with 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting from outside. Sophomore
Toni Brewer added 14 points and nine rebounds, while classmate
Courtney Meyer recorded her sixth double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.
UWG (7-19, 7-13) shot 43 percent and was 10-of-16 from outside, including 4-of-6 in the second half. The Wolves also connected on 11-of-14 at the free throw line, compared to the Argos' 6-of-13 effort.
After a back-and-forth opening quarter, UWG went on a 12-0 run I the second to claim a 36-20 lead. The Argos climbed to within seven midway through the third and five with just over two minutes to play in the game but just couldn't get over the hump.
UWF will return to action
on Saturday afternoon with a road game at West Alabama (9-15, 6-14). Tip off at Pruitt Hall in Livingston, Ala., is set for
2:00 p.m. Central time.
