PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision against the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Tuesday night at Jim Spooner Field. West Florida now falls to 14-9 on the year, while Embry-Riddle sits at 16-8 on its 2016 campaign.

Defense plagued the Argonauts in the top half of the first, as three errors allowed the Eagles to score three runs in the game's first frame.

UWF was quick to respond, as Nic Strasser hit his fifth home run of the season to lead off the game for the Argonauts. However, that would be all the offense the Argos would collect as they were held to five hits for the rest of the game.

Freshman starting pitcher Troy Brown pitched five innings, allowing four hits and no earned runs while striking out five. Brown lowered his season ERA to an impressive 2.08 in the effort.

Two other freshman, Gray Dorsey and Cole Crowder, also saw action in Tuesday night's contest. Dorsey allowed one earned run while striking out three over two innings pitched, while Crowder blanked the Eagles for two innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three.

For Embry-Riddle, starter Kenny Burkhead tossed 7.1 innings allowing five hits and just the one earned run on Strasser's homer.

Justin Ambrosino led the offense with two hits in his 2-for-4 showing on Tuesday night. Kyle Hamner extended his hitting streak to 10 games, while Jean Figueroa and Alex Greene both extended their on base streaks to 19 games.

The Argos and Eagles finish the two-game midweek series tomorrow afternoon at Jim Spooner Field at 3:00 p.m. Anthony Mazzurco is set to start on the mound for the Argonauts.
