No. 1 BYU-Hawaii upends No. 6 UWF women's tennis 7-2 on Thursday

West Florida drops first home match of the season to the top-ranked BYU-Hawaii Seasiders

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 6-ranked University of West Florida women's tennis team fell to the No. 1-ranked BYU-Hawaii Seasiders 2-7 at home on Thursday afternoon. West Florida (14-3, 6-0 GSC) drops its first home match of the season and falls to 5-3 on the year against nationally ranked opponents.
 
Senior Katarina Dikosavljevic (Queensland, Australia) and freshman Dianna Vlad (Oberhausen, Germany) defeated Kanela Adamson and Jade Griffin 8-5 at number three doubles. Dikosavljevic and Vlad improve to 3-1 on the year with the win.
 
BYU-Hawaii's No. 2-ranked doubles team of Dallas Zhang and Summer Wen defeated freshman Valeria Mantilla (Bogotá, Colombia) and junior Hannah Toro (London, England) 8-2 at number one doubles.
 
BYU-Hawaii's No. 16-ranked doubles team of Shu-Ying Hsieh and Karen Lui defeated senior Nina Bubelova (Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia) and junior Paula Lopez (Tucumán, Argentina) 8-4 at number two doubles. Bubelova and Lopez drop only their second match of the season and fall to 14-2 on the year with the loss.
 
Vlad came back from a first set loss to defeat Jeon at number five singles by a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 at number five singles. Vlad improves her overall singles record to 8-5 with the win.
 
No. 1 Zhang defeated Dikosavljevic 6-1, 6-1 at number one singles while No. 2 Liu defeated No. 46 Lopez 6-3, 6-0 at number two singles. Dikosavljevic drops to 1-2 against nationally ranked opponents and 4-3 against regionally ranked opponents. Lopez falls to 1-3 against nationally ranked opponents and 2-3 against regionally ranked opponents.
 
No. 47 Wen defeated Bubelova 6-1, 6-3 at number three singles while senior Sarai Flores (Mexico City, Mexico) fell to Hsieh at number four singles by a score of 1-6, 3-6.
 
Freshman Heather Mixon (New Iberia, La./Catholic HS) fell to Griffin at number six singles by a score of 6-7, 2-6. Mixon drops her first match of the season after starting the spring with 13 consecutive singles victories.
 
West Florida will next play host to four Gulf South Conference opponents. UWF will host Delta State and West Georgia on Friday, April 1 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. The Argos will then host Mississippi College and Christian Brothers on Saturday, April 2 at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
