DENVER – The UWF women's volleyball team collected a pair of impressive wins over top 30 programs en route to the Bronze Bracket championship in the Colorado Premier Challenge on Saturday.
After defeating both Metro State in the semifinals and No. 8-ranked Lewis in the title match, West Florida evened its record to 4-4 heading into the start of Gulf South Conference play next weekend.

West Florida jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first two sets, largely in thanks to a .462 attack percentage in the first set and 17 total kills in the second set.
Corisha Smith and
Rachel Neblett led the Argonauts in the match, posting 13 and 10 kills, respectively.
Monique StCyr added 33 assists, while also posting a tying for the team lead with
Tori Martella, each tallying 13 digs. UWF posted an eye-catching 11 blocks for the match, with
Kathryn Torre leading the way with six.
Cora Bidlack and Smith each contributed four blocks.
Metro State minimzed the Argonaut attack in the third set as UWF hit just .054 in the third set. The Roadrunners would take the third set, 25-18, before UWF dominated the clinching fourth set by a score of 25-13.
Digs in the match were even at 56-56.
UWF 3, #8 Lewis 1
Just a few hours later, UWF would post another big 3-1 win, but this time against a top-10 nationally ranked opponent in No. 8 Lewis.
UWF coasted to a 25-14 first set win by posting a .400 attack percentage in comparison to Lewis' .093.
For the second straight match, UWF jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Lewis responded with a hardly fought 25-23 victory in the fourth set, before UWF was able to seal the deal in the fourth set with a 25-21 victory. U
Kourtney Pittaway posted a career night with a career-high and match-high 18 kills.
Kathryn Torre was shortly behind with 17 kills of her own in the match.
Monique StCyr set the table for the Argonauts, posting an outstanding 56 assists in the match.
Tori Martella,
Sarah Hayman and Pittaway all prevented the Flyers' attacks by posting 24, 19 and 16 digs each.
West Florida opens Gulf South Conference play this upcoming weekend, facing West Georgia on the road on Friday, September 16 at 6:00 p.m.
